up+dn Houses Completed in Houston

Behold, up+dn house becomes a reality. All images courtesy of Brett Zamore Design.

More beautiful, practical goodness from Brett Zamore Design is on the ground here in Houston, with more in the works. One of our most prolific studios, BZD has been busy building and developing new plans and products, in addition to opening a storefront in a dynamic pedestrian neighborhood in central Houston. We love that.

Brett Zamore's Original Shot-Trot

Brett Zamore's house and Hometta, Etc. plans have consistently been among the most popular Hometta has offered, for their stylish updating of traditional forms, as well as their efficient and affordable design. Numerous iterations of his Kit House system have been built, but tomorrow you'll have the opportunity to visit his widely celebrated, first-ever Kit House, the Shot-Trot, as part of the Eastwood Civic Association Historic Home Tour.

The Shot-Trot was also featured in Karrie Jacobs' book, The Perfect 100,000 House. Buy it at the Hometta Reading Room!

Hometta for Sale in Houston

Updated on Monday, September 20, 2010 at 10:13AM by Registered CommenterJenny Staff Johnson

This is the project that started it all.

Now, it could be your home, office, or both: Two award-winning modern homes for sale, right off Houston's bustling (and New York Times-approved) Washington Avenue corridor.

Dissatisfied with the townhome-centric options for today's city dwellers, builder Mark Johnson sought out Houston architect Brett Zamore to help him provide more beautiful, sustainable housing options for lovers of modern design. Johnson commissioned Zamore to build two of his famous Shot-Trot houses, and design a modern update and gut renovation of an adjacent 1920s bungalow, adding a modern Zamore efficiency in back for increased density. It was during this project that Johnson conceived the idea for Hometta, and partnered with Zamore and several other prominent Houston architects and designers to develop the concept.

One of the Zamore Shot-Trots, 4309 Center Street, has sold and serves as the office of a small real estate company. The other, 4307 Center, pictured here, will go on the market this week. The bungalow with backyard efficiency, which served as Hometta, Inc's first headquarters, is also for sale.

The two-year-old Center Street development has been recognized for excellence by both the Houston Business Journal and the Houston Heights Association. I'll post the full listing for 4307 Center as soon as it is available; in the meantime or for more information, please contact Kaki Vallee.

More photos after the jump.
